DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this special screening of the Emmy award winning documentary\, A Higher Law and support producer/videographer Christina Paolucci who is an important part of OFAM’s Herstory team. \nFREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC \nRuntime: 1 hour: 26 minutes. The Oberlin–Wellington Rescue of 1858 was a key event in the history of abolitionism leading up to the Civil War in which a group of 37-white and black men in Ohio were charged with violating the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. This is the first time that a ‘higher law’ was used as a defense in a federal court case. \nBACKGROUND\n2023 – THE FILM PREMIERED \nat the Apollo Theatre in Oberlin to a full house in the spring.  They continued to speak at film screenings throughout the year\, two more times in Oberlin\, twice in Cincinnati\, twice in Lorain County and once in Columbus for a total of seven screening in 2023.  \n2024 The film screened in Lorain at the Palace Theatre in June and at the Kelton House Museum and Garden in Columbus in September. Plus\, many schools held their own screenings throughout Ohio.
