A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT

OFAM’S PURPOSE

Dear friends,

Over the past couple of years, I have been contemplating what will happen to my precious feminist art collection once I am no longer walking this earth. I think of the many women in the world who have collected feminist art, music, books, and memorabilia that is similar to mine and I wonder what will happen to their treasures once they’re gone.

In December of 2023, a friend of mine encouraged me to watch “Feminists: What were they thinking?”. My life changed that night. I realized that I have been a feminist my entire life. I googled “what does feminism mean?” and Wikipedia defined feminism as “Feminism is a range of socio-political movements and ideologies that aim to define and establish the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the genders. I realized that almost everyone is a feminist, as “we” believe in equality among all people. The LGBTQ movement advocates for equality. Black Lives Matter movement advocates for equality. Every one wants equality and the same protections for all people.

I went online to research if there were any Feminist museums in the United States or anywhere else in the world. My searches discovered only 5 museums in the world that are solely dedicated to displaying the art of women artists. So, on December 8, 2023, I decided to start a Feminist museum and that my mission is to reactivate and embrace the word “feminist” and “feminism”. Before I knew it, I had many friends helping and encouraging me make this possible and on January 18, 2024, the Ohio Feminist Art Museum (OFAM) was incorporated as a non-profit museum.
